92 per cent of items stolen recovered: UP
If you are in Uttar Pradesh and your belongings get stolen, you can be rest assured that they will be recovered by the police, going by official figures.
According to the latest national crime statistics, UP can boast of a 92 per cent recovery rate of stolen items, which is also the highest in the country.
In the year 2006, UP Police managed to recover stolen items worth Rs 100.05 crore out of a total of Rs 108.73 crore.
The national capital was close to the other extreme, with Delhi Police recovering a meagre 5.3 per cent of stolen items worth Rs 254.86 crore.
Only the North-eastern state of Manipur, which has a recovery rate of 2.5 per cent, was behind Delhi. A total of Rs 5.54 crore worth of items were stolen in the state, while items worth only Rs 13.9 lakh were recovered.
Stolen property worth Rs 1,796.71 crore has still not been recovered nationwide, which is 75 per cent of the total worth of stolen belongings in 2006, according to figures of the National Crime Record Bureau.
Maharashtra tops the list in terms of the value of items stolen. Items worth Rs 724.74 crore were stolen in the western state, while only 14.3 per cent of those were recovered.
There were only three other states Haryana, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu which had an impressive recovery rate of over 50 per cent.
Among the 91,100 vehicles stolen in 2006, police managed to recover only 26,474, which accounted for 29.1 per cent of the total.
