9 killed in UP shootout over land dispute

“The village chief had purchased the land from a IAS officer two years back,” UP DGP O P Singh told.
New Delhi: Nine persons, including three women, were killed and four others received injuries after a Gram Pradhan (village chief) and his supporters opened fire in a land dispute in Ghorwal area of UP’s Sonbhadra district on Wednesday.

Police said the village chief and his supporters attempted to take possession of a disputed land. The village chief Yagya Dutt had allegedly purchased the land about two years back. “The village chief had purchased the land from a IAS officer two years back,” UP DGP O P Singh told ET. According to him, police had initiated preventive actions against the village chief in the past.
