“Voters have voted in festive mood today. In the 2021 assembly elections, 87.20 percent votes were cast. 84.07 percent votes were cast in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections,” Additional CEO Dibyendu Das said.
The polling was largely peaceful. “During the polling period one EVM had to be changed. Micro observers are monitoring from the control room. Five complaints have been submitted to the Commission,” the senior EC official said.
The re-polling was conducted peacefully amid heavy deployment of central forces and long queues outside polling booths, with no major incidents reported.
“Counting will be conducted at Diamond Harbor Women's University,” Das said. Altogether, 21 rounds will be counted in 14 tables.
Re-polling for the Falta Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal concluded at 6 p.m., with no reports of violence, tension or electoral malpractice from any of the 285 polling booths.
Polling for the Falta Assembly seat was first conducted on April 29. Amid widespread complaints of electoral malpractices and irregularities, the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered re-polling across the entire constituency.
Trinamool candidate Jahangir Khan’s claimed that exits from the contest was widely seen as the ruling BJP getting a walkover in this seat.
