83.77% votes cast in MADC polls in Mizoram’s Siaha district

Around 83.77 per cent votes were cast in 25-member Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) polls in Mizoram’s Siaha district.

Ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), BJP, the opposition Congress and the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) are contesting the polls.

The ruling MNF is contesting all 25 seats while the BJP and the Congress have fielded 24 and 23 candidates respectively. ZPM is contesting in eight seats.

In the last elections in May 2017, the Congress secured 17 seats but in 2019 around 15 Congress members and a few members of Mara Democratic Front joined the BJP and thereby the council was governed by BJP.

Counting of votes will be held on May 9.
