80% of the population of Chennai, still susceptible to Covid-19: Corporation sero survey

CHENNAI: According to the preliminary findings of the sero survey conducted in Chennai, 1/5th of the population of the city was exposed to SARS-Cov-2 infection.

As per the findings of the survey that were released on Tuesday, 80% of the population in Chennai is still susceptible to the infection.

"Chennai's Covid-19 seroprevalence results are a month old, so it is likely that more people have gained immunity since then," said Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash.


This comes as the city reported 1084 of the total 5928 Covid-19 positive cases in the State on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu saw another day of under 6000 cases, providing some relief after reporting over 6,000 cases over the weekend.

This took the total tally in the state to 433,969.

The number of deaths remained under 100 with 96 people succumbing to the infection on Tuesday. The state bulletin confirmed that 7418 people have died due to the infection so far.

As many as 6031 people were discharged, pushing total recoveries to 374,172 on Tuesday.

As many as 73,155 people were tested on Tuesday. On Sunday, however, testing touched an all-time high with 80,100 persons being tested.
