BEIJING: Eight pro-Tibet protesters who unfurled banners and spoke out about China's human rights abuses in Tibet have been detained near an Olympics venue in the Chinese capital, a rights group said.

Students for a Free Tibet group said two of its members hung a banner today that said "Free Tibet" in the Chinese Ethnic Culture Park near the National Stadium and another five or six members handcuffed themselves to each other and bicycles at the front gate of the park.

The activists were detained by police and plainclothes security agents, reports said.
