8 arrested in Himachal Pradesh for overstaying are Taiwanese nationals: Government

NEW DELHI: The eight held on charges of overstaying after raiding a fortified monastery in Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh are Taiwanese nationals and will be deported, official sources said here today.

Reacting to the arrest of eight foreigners in Chauntra village in Mandi, official sources said, "They are Taiwanese nationals and this is a case of overstay."

They also said that in such cases the "legal conclusion is deportation."

However, given the sensitivity of the matter and their nationality, they will be interrogated to ascertain the facts, the sources said.

In a major crackdown, police arrested eight foreigners on charges of overstaying after raiding a fortified monastery in Mandi district last night and claimed to have recovered Rs 30 lakh, USD 3000 and SIM cards.
