764 industries 'grossly polluting' Ganga: Sanwar Lal Jat

An inspection report done by CPCB under a direction from National Green Tribunal has been placed in public domain, Jat said.

NEW DELHI: The Central Pollution Control Board ( CPCB) has flagged 764 industries as "grossly polluting" river Ganga of which 687 are in Uttar Pradesh alone, the Rajya Sabha was told today.

"As reported by CPCB, the board has inventoried 764 grossly polluting industries discharging their effluents directly into Ganga or through tributaries like river Ramganga and Kali East, of which 687 are in UP," Minister of State for Water Resources Sanwar Lal Jat said in a written reply.

An inspection report done by CPCB under a direction from National Green Tribunal has been placed in public domain, he said.

Further verification are being carried out by CPCB and UP Pollution control Board, the Minister added.
