7 killed in twin blasts in Karachi

The blasts took place in Ancholi, located in Federal 'B' Area of Karachi. Several of those injured are in critical condition, reports said.

KARACHI: At least seven people, including a journalist, were killed and 20 others injured today in two successive explosions in Pakistan's financial capital Karachi.

The blasts took place in Ancholi, located in Federal 'B' Area of Karachi. Several of those injured are in critical condition, reports said.

Medics say five of the injured succumbed to their wounds in the hospital. The victim included a journalist of Geo TV. They said that women and children were also among the injured.

Rescue teams and heavy contingent of police and Rangers were rushed to the spot while the Bomb Disposal Squad was also called in.

According to reports, a bomb was apparently planted in a motorcycle. A number of shops and vehicles near the blasts site were also damaged.

A complete blackout in the area occurred after the blasts.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has strongly condemned the blasts, terming them as cowardly act.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has also condemned the blasts.

MQM's Haider Abbas Rizvi has said that a day of mourning will be observed tomorrow.

The Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen has called for three days of mourning.
