Suspected ULFA militants’ triggered the explosions in Lower Assam town.

GUWAHATI: Suspected ULFA militants’ triggered two explosions in the Lower Assam town of Nalbari. Seven people were killed while over 50 were injured in the twin explosions on Sunday.

The first explosion took place outside the police station and the bomb was concealed in a bicycle.

Police sources added, “The explosion took place around 9.45 am on Sunday. We had intelligence inputs that ULFA is likely to carry out violent activities prior to Protest Day on November 27. ULFA observes this day as protest day following launching of military operations on it and declaration of ULFA as banned outfit.”

Sources added, “ULFA was also looking to avenge the arrest of two of its senior leaders, self-styled foreign secretary Sasha Choudhury and finance secretary Chitrabon Hazarika.”

ULFA militants blew up wagons of a tanker train carrying high-speed diesel (HSD) and petrol early this week. Hira Saraniya, commander of ULFA’s 709 battalion, called up local newspapers and claimed that ULFA has no role in the explosions.
