7 Army personnel killed in two avalanches in Kashmir Valley

SRINAGAR: Seven Army personnel were killed and 15 others are missing as two avalanches struck Gurez subdivision and Sonamarg area of Kashmir Valley.

The first snow avalanche hit the brigade headquarters of the Army in Gurez subdivision in north Kashmir last night, sources said today.

Twenty-nine Army personnel were trapped in the avalanche. While four were found dead, 10 others were rescued, the sources said.

15 personnel are yet to be traced. Another avalanche hit an Army camp located near the bus stand in Sonamarg in Ganderbal district, killing three Territorial Army jawans, the sources said.
