SHILLONG: Nearly 65,000 NCC cadets would participate in International Yoga Day programme at 176 venues spread across seven north-eastern states.

Defence spokesman Wing Commander Amit Mahajan said the NCC cadets would perform the stipulated set of asanas from 7 am to 7.35 am on June 21.

The cadets are being trained for the past two months in all the seven states by yoga instructors, he said.

The present NCC strength in the region is at 88,510 with girls constituting approximately 25 per cent, Mahajan said, adding, these cadets are drawn from 297 colleges and 744 schools spread across the seven states.

The NCC coverage, he said, is being expanded in these states with the formation of new units specially in sensitive and insurgency prone areas besides upgrading existing units in a phased manner.

The NCC-North Eastern Region aims at more than doubling its cadet strength after a certain period, Mahajan added.
