6 CAG reports ready to be tabled in Parliament

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has reviewed progress of the 'Namami Gange; programme and submitted its audit report for tabling in the winter session of Parliament along with five other appraisal reports.

NEW DELHI: The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has reviewed progress of the 'Namami Gange; programme and submitted its audit report for tabling in the winter session of Parliament along with five other appraisal reports. Four more CAG reports on direct and indirect taxes are likely to be ready before the session starts.

The NDA government has allocated Rs 20,000 crore for ‘rejuvenation of Ganga’ and set a target of five years (2015-2020) to complete works including new sewage treatment plants, river front development and renovation of bathing ghats and crematoria in different cities and towns.

Many of these projects are running behind schedule. The government had earlier said that some major states like Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand were not cooperating. Now, both the states have BJP governments. The government, under the Namami Gange programme, had sanctioned over Rs 10,000 crore for 145 projects till March.
