59,962 HR violations registered in Pak in last three years

A total of 59,962 cases of human rights violations were registered during the last three years in Pakistan, the country's National Assembly was informed last evening.

ISLAMABAD: A total of 59,962 cases of human rights violations were registered during the last three years in Pakistan, the country's National Assembly was informed last evening.

In a written reply, to a question asked in the Assembly, Pakistan Law Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Farooq H Naek gave the province-wise breakdown of cases of human rights violations registered between 2005 and 2007.

According to the reply, Punjab registered 18,746 cases, Sindh 5668, the NWFP 34,296 and Balochistan 1252. He said the Human Rights Division, which was the focal entity of the federation on human rights, kept a close liaison with provincial governments, non-government organisations and the international community in order to introduce measures for the curbing of human rights violations.
