56% Paid bribes in last one year: Survey

The online survey, conducted by citizens engagement form LocalCircles in collaboration with Transparency International India, found that proportion of people paying bribes was the highest in Uttar Pradesh and the lowest in Kerala and Gujarat.

More than one in two people (56%) paid bribes to get their work done in the last one year, according to India Corruption Survey 2018 report. The online survey, conducted by citizens engagement forum LocalCircles in collaboration with Transparency International India, found that proportion of people paying bribes was the highest in Uttar Pradesh and the lowest in Kerala and Gujarat.

A LocalCircles survey last year had estimated the proportion of those who paid bribes at 45%. While the police department received most bribes in Punjab, Gujarat and Rajasthan, nationally the highest proportion of bribes went to authorities dealing with issues related to property and land.
