550 viral fever patients admitted to medical centres in Uttar Pradesh

KANPUR: As many as 250 more patients with viral fever have been admitted to various medical centres in Bhanwar village of Ghatampur tehsil, taking the number of ailing persons to 550, even as authorities refuted any deaths due to the fever.

According to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) R P Singh Yadav, medicines have been availed to the 550 people suffering from the fever and are undergoing treatment at Community Health Centre (CHC) in the village.

Out of the 50 gravely ill patients, who were kept under observation yesterday, nearly half of them have been discharged, Yadav said.

Meanwhile, the health officials refuted any claims of deaths caused due to the viral fever.

"None of the four deaths, which were reported in the period, have been due to viral fever," Yadav said.

Kashiram Hospital in Kanpur city today discharged 10 patients, while Ursala hospital discharged 12 of the seriously ill residents, he said.

Asserting that no case of Dengue has been reported in the city, the CMO said, "There is no proper sanitation in the village as most of the people rear cattle which in turn leads to considerable amount of production of animal excreta. The heaps of garbage are the reason of the viral fever."

The medical reports of 300 people suspected to be Malaria patients turned out to be negative, he added.

A slew of measures have been taken by the health department to control the spread of the viral fever.

"A team of six doctors and two ambulances have been deployed to check each and every family. Deputy CMO level officers have been camping in the village," said Yadav.

Meanwhile, Roshan Jacob, District Magistrate has also ordered for a massive cleanliness drive in the village, Yadav added.
