In what can be termed as another setback for the BJP in Karnataka, Congress candidate Soumya Reddy defeated BJP's B N Vijayakumar in Jayanagar assembly constituency in Bengaluru today.

Elections were countermanded in the area after the death of BJP candidate B N Vijayakumar just days before the May 12 election. Polling in Jayanagar assembly constituency was held on June 11. Around 55 per cent polling was recorded in the constituency on June 11.

It was a direct tussle between the two parties after Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) candidate Kalegowda pulled out from the race in Reddy's support.

Earlier today, Congress workers were seen celebrating outside the counting centre in Bengaluru after party candidate Sowmya Reddy leads over BJP's BN Prahlad in Jayanagar assembly constituency.
