50 Team Anna supporters taken into police custody in Chandigarh

Nearly 50 Anna Hazare supporters were today taken into police custody here for holding protest against a "weak" Lokpal Bill without permission.

The protesters were rounded up from close to Sector-17 inter-state bus terminus and taken to Sector-19 police station, police said.

"The group did not have any permission to hold demonstration and we removed them from there as per law. We will book them under relevant sections of the IPC," a police official said.

However, the agitators termed the police action as undemocratic.

"We were sitting in a peaceful manner causing no threat to law and order. This action of police is undemocratic and against our right to hold protest in a peaceful manner," a protester said.
