ITANAGAR: At least five persons were killed and four others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge between Palizi and Ramda in West Kameng district.

The SUV carrying nine passengers was on its way last evening to Seppa, the district headquarters of East Kameng district, from Itanagar, local MLA Tapuk Taku said today.

The accident occurred as the vehicle was negotiating a sharp bend, he said, adding that five persons were killed on the spot.

Taku said that one of the injured has been shifted to Tezpur in a critical condition.

He also informed that he has contacted East Kameng DC SK Singh and the East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organisation chairman and secretary asking them to extend all help to the victims.

Confirming the incident, DGP S Nithyanandam said that a police team had rushed to the spot, which is located 40km from Seppa. The DGP added that the four injured passengers have been admitted to the district hospital at Seppa.
