The BSF, in the area of the south Bengal frontier, has seized FICN of the face value of Rs 53.56 lakh and has apprehended seven smugglers this year.

Fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 9.70 lakh have been sized from along the India- Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Malda district, the BSF today said.

A senior officer of the border guarding force said Iqramul Seikh (50), a resident of Kaliachak in Malda, has also been apprehended by them after fake notes were allegedly seized from him yesterday night.

Seikh, he said, was nabbed as part of a special operation planned by the Border Security Force to check the fake Indian currency notes (FICN) menace along the Indo-Bangla border.

"A total of 485 fake notes of Rs 2,000 were seized from Seikh. The face value of the seized currency is Rs 9.70 lakh," he said.

The man has been handed over to the local police, he said.
