48-hour 'Operation Amla' begins at Tuticorin coastal areas

Police officials posing as 'terrorists' would try to enters near Tuticorin Harbour to check the preparedness of fellow officers during the drill.

TUTICORIN: To test their emergency preparedness during unexpected situations, more than 100 personnel from Tamil Nadu police and Coast Guard (Eastern Region) today began a two-day drill " Operation Amla" across the coastal areas of the district.

Police officials posing as 'terrorists' would try to enter through boats near Tuticorin Harbour to check the preparedness of fellow officers during the drill, which began at six AM, police said.

Officers equipped with latest technology and devices are undertaking the drill. Security has been beefed up in vital places where people throng in large numbers, the sources said.
