45 per cent polls cast in Meghalaya in first six hours

A total 45 per cent polls were cast till 1 pm on Monday in Meghalaya where polls are being held for 59 out of the 60 assembly seats.

SHILLONG: A total 45 per cent polls were cast till 1 pm on Monday in Meghalaya where polls are being held for 59 out of the 60 assembly seats, election office sources said.

Polling, which began on a brisk note, was affected for some time because of thunder storm and rain in many parts of the state.

Chief Minister D D Lapang cast his vote at Nongpoh in Ri-bhoi district and NCP leader Purno A Sangma cast his ballot at Tura. Voting started at 7 am amid tight security.
