BARASAT: Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) members clashed in Belgaharia in North 24 Parganas, leaving three Left leaders injured after which four persons have been arrested, police said.

The three CPI(M) leaders injured in the clash, which took place last night, include CITU leader Subhas Mukherjee and former MLA Manas Mukherjee.

Senior party leader Nepal Deb Bhattacharya alleged that Trinamool workers had beaten up CPI(M) cadres and leaders.

Police said two members each of CPI(M) and Trinamool have been arrested in connection with the violence.

Those arrested include a Left councillor of the outgoing Kamarhatty municipality board. Two other persons were being interrogated in connection with the clash, police said.

Meanwhile, chairman of the TMC-ruled municipality in the northern fringes of Kolkata, Gopal Saha, claimed that during the clash two members of the party were also beaten up and injured.

Bhattacharya, CPI(M) district secretary, also said a 10-hour bandh has been called at Kamarhatti tomorrow. Civic polls in Kamarhatty is scheduled on April 25.
