Delhi Police is probing an alleged job scam in which general category candidates managed to get teaching jobs in Delhi government schools by using fake scheduled caste and tribe (SC/ST) certificates. Cops have a list of around 355 such candidates.

An individual inquiry of each complaint is being carried out and summons will soon be sent to these people asking them to join the investigation.

The probe was initiated following a complaint by one Gautam Mishra, a northeast Delhi resident. The complainant alleged that he had been approaching the anticorruption branch of the Delhi government since 2012 but no action had been taken. “My petitions were thrown in the dustbin,” he alleged. Mishra also demanded a CBI probe. The police top brass is now monitoring the probe to ensure transparency.

The complaint was referred to the vigilance branch and a case has been filed on the basis of its report, said a senior officer.

Another officer said police found that a person named Kailash had obtained the job of a trained graduate teacher (TGT) in a government school by using a certificate issued from Rajasthan where as his family has been a resident of Bulandshahr area of Uttar Pradesh for three generations.

“As Mishra had submitted a list of such candidates, the investigation was handed over to a team led by an inspector-rank officer,” the officer added. The police have invoked multiple IPC sections related to cheating, forgery, impersonation and criminals conspiracy in the FIR.

The complainant has also alleged a similar case in Delhi Police but cops are yet to verify it. “Mishra has informed that Kailash’s brother, Mukesh, had managed to get the job of a sub-inspector in Delhi Police in a similar manner but his identity could not be conclusively established,” said an officer.

As per the FIR, the brothers fall under the general category but they had got the certificates by declaring them as ‘Meena’. “One of the brothers, Mukesh, got a certificate from the office of the assistant collector, Jaipur in October 1986 while his brother got the document in May 1987 from the same office,” the complaint states, claimng that most people in the list have got the jobs in the same manner and are causing a loss of revenue to the exchequer.
