3000 pending disputes over Rs 12-crore settled in Maharashtra Lok Adalat

A sum of Rs 12,06,54,491 was finalised in the cases. Besides 31 cases of various banks have also been settled which involved a sum of Rs 19,27,572.

3000 pending disputes over Rs 12-crore settled in Maharashtra Lok Adalat
YAVATMAL: The Maha Lok Adalat held on April 9 in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra settled over 3,000 long pending legal disputes involving over Rs 12 crore.

According to District and Sessions Judge D R Shirsav, the Maha Lok Adalat was organised under the aegis of National Legal Service Tribunal of Supreme Court and State Legal Service Tribunal of Mumbai High Court.

Judges, lawyers, disputants and officials of various departments and banks participated in it.

Atleast 2958 long pending cases were listed for the hearing and they were amicably disposed off in the Adalat.

A sum of Rs 12,06,54,491 was finalised in the cases. Besides 31 cases of various banks have also been settled which involved a sum of Rs 19,27,572.

Civil Judge and Secretary of the Free Legal Aid Cell of Yavatmal, Sachin Aagarkar said that such Lok Adalats are the most convenient mode of adjudication to reslove long drawn disputes amicably.

Also, disputants can be saved from financial loss and could be freed from the physical and mental torture through this process, he said.
