3-tier system to be put in place to protect oil platforms: DGP

A three-tier security system will be put in place to safeguard oil platforms from any terrorist attack via sea, AP DGP V Dinesh Reddy said.

VISAKHAPATNAM: A three-tier security system will be put in place to safeguard oil platforms from any terrorist attack via sea, Andhra Pradesh DGP V Dinesh Reddy said today.

"A Marine Police Station will soon be set up on the premises of the Vizag steel plant which shares a 15-km coastal line and thus is vulnerable to a Mumbai-kind of terrorist attack," he said.

Reddy was addressing mediapersons on the sidelines of a function organised to felicitate community guards involved in flood rescue operations in the district.

"Fishermen and local people should be involved in the three-level security system. Their support is also necessary for land acquisition across the coastal line for any public purpose," the top cop said.

He distributed cash prizes to 18 swimmers, 35 community guards and 16 police constable who took part in the rescue operations.
