3 FIRs registered in Bengal violence
KOLKATA: The West Bengal Police registered three FIRs in the aftermath of the political clashes between the workers of the Trinamool Congress and the BJP in North 24 Parganas district.

The FIRs were registered for rioting, being armed with deadly weapon, shooting, stabbing, abduction with the intention of killing and murder and also for carrying arms under the sections of Arms Act. The first was registered on June 8 by the family members of Kayum Molla, a 26-yearold TMC member, who was allegedly shot dead on Saturday. On June 9, two more FIRs were registered by the family members of deceased BJP workers Pradip Mondal and Sukanta Mondal.

However, the state government and the police did not provide any information on arrested persons or any detail of seizure of arms from the location where the incident took place on Saturday.

A war of words ensued between chief minister Mamata Banerjee and senior BJP leaders over the number of deceased and the missing men of BJP. Banerjee after an administrative review meeting said that police were instructed to crack down on the hooligans and investigation in the case had already been initiated.

She said that only three persons were killed but the media has reported more casualties.

“Some of the police officers in some police stations are not working. We will take strict action against them. However, Bengal is not Gujarat and also not Uttar Pradesh. Around 25 people were killed in Uttar Pradesh after election. Children were also killed. But MHA issues advisory to Bengal to defame and discredit the state,” said Banerjee.
