3 CPIM supporters sustain bullet injuries as Trinamool Congress activists attack them near Kolkata

CPIM leadership has come down heavily on Mamata Banerjee's government after her party leader attacked Mollah.

BAMANGHATA,Kolkata: A CPIM rally from Bhangar was going to Ballygunge in south Kolkata where the CPIM was supposed to hold a protest rally against last Sunday's incident in which their MLA Abdur Rezzak Mollah was beaten up by Trinamool Congress activist and former party MLA Arabul Islam. When the rally reached near Bamanghata, it was attacked reportedly by a group of Trinamool Congress activists led by the same party leader Arabul Islam.

Bullets were sprayed on the CPIM activists and three persons sustained injuries. Several buses and vans which were carrying CPIM activists, had also been set on fire by the ruling party supporters.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee who is still indisposed and had cancelled all her function for Tuesday and Wednesday, rushed to the Writers' Buildings, the state administrative headquarters on Tuesday afternoon and held talks with senior state police officials, chief secretary and home secretary to take stock of the Bamanghata situation.

The police also said that the Trinamool Congress activists had attacked the CPIM rally near Bamanghata without any provocation. The chief minister was also given the same information by the senior state police officials during her meeting at Writers' Buildings.

CPIM leader Kanti Ganguly claimed that five of their supporters had received bullet injuries and condition of three of them was stated to be critical. All these five persons have been admitted to a city hospital, Ganguly claimed.

The party had demanded arrest of former Trinamool Congress MLA Arabul Islam following the attack on Mollah. "But the government and the police did not initiate any measure against Islam despite the fact that he had attacked our MLA. Neither the government and the police have taken any measure to check violence at Bhangar.

Bhangar is still tensed after the attack on our MLA and the police was silent and did not initiate any measure to maintain peace and normalcy in the area by arresting Islam,"CPIM leader Sujan Chakraborty said.
