KOLKATA: India is making hay with opener Wasim Jaffer is converting every opportunity into runs even as Sachin Tendulkar got bowled by Danish Kaneria on the first day of the second cricket Test at the Eden Gardens on Friday.

Sachin contributed 82 runs to the team total. Jaffer is still going great guns at his personal score of 174. Local hero Sourav Ganguly has joined him in the crease.

Rahul Dravid was the first victim of leggie Kaneria. Dravid got out after completing his half century.

Earlier, India captain Anil Kumble won the toss and elected to bat. The hosts started off badly as Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir claimed his first victim in the form of Dinesh Karthik in the very second over of the Test.

Regular Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik missed the match with an ankle injury and vice-captain Younis Khan is leading the side.

The visitors received a boost when fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Sami were cleared to play after passing fitness tests.

Batsman Faisal Iqbal was named in the starting lineup in place of Malik. India were unchanged from the team which won the opening test in New Delhi by six wickets.

The final match of the series will be played in Bangalore next week.
