KOLKATA: Inform opener Wasim Jaffer and Rahul Dravid more than made up for the early loss of Dinesh Karthik as the two stitched an unbeaten partnership of 100 runs to take the team score to 104 at lunch on the first day of the second cricket Test at the Eden Gardens on Friday.

Jaffer was batting on his personal score of 65 while Dravid is unbeaten on 35.

Earlier, India captain Anil Kumble won the toss and elected to bat. The hosts started off badly as Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir claimed his first victim in the form of Dinesh Karthik in the very second over of the Test.

Regular Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik missed the match with an ankle injury and vice-captain Younis Khan is leading the side.

The visitors received a boost when fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Sami were cleared to play after passing fitness tests.

Batsman Faisal Iqbal was named in the starting lineup in place of Malik. India were unchanged from the team which won the opening Test in New Delhi by six wickets.
