2nd phase Polling begins in Jharkhand amid violence

RANCHI: Voting in eight Lok Sabha constituencies, under the second and final phase, and the Jamtara assembly seat of Jharkhand began on Thursday morning even as Maoists continued their attacks across the state.

According to reports reaching the state election office, about 10 per cent polling was recorded till 9 am. The extremists blew up Chainki railway station near Daltonganj in the Palamau district late last night. However, nobody was injured in the incident.

A polling party was attacked by exploding a bomb in Giridih in which an executive magistrate reportedly got injured. The incident took place near Dadi-Shrirampur village under the Giridih district.

As reported earlier, the extremists had hijacked a passenger train at Hehegarh under the Latehar district on Wednesday. The train was later released.

The constituency wise percentage of polling was along these lines - Rajmahal (9%) Dumka (6%) , Godda, (10%), Giridih (15%) , Dhanbad (8 %), Ranchi (10 %), Jamshedpur (11 %), Chaibasa (12 %), Jamtara (assembly byelection) (10 %).
