2G scam: Role of Reliance officials in 2G scam minimal - Soli Sorabjee

Sorabjee cited a CBI note and said Reliance officials were only accused of "structuring" a front company, Swan Telecom Private Ltd.

NEW DELHI: The role of Reliance officials involved in the 2G scam was "minimal", former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee, arguing for accused Gautam Doshi, told justice Ajit Bharihoke on Wednesday.

The Delhi High Court would resume hearing bail petitions of five corporate executives including Doshi, Unitech MD Sanjay Chandra, Swan Telecom director Vinod Goenka, ADA group president Hari Nair and senior vice president Surendra Pipara, on May 6. Mukul Rohatgi representing Goenka and CBI prosecutor UU Lalit would conclude their pleas on Friday.

On the fifth day of the hearing, Sorabjee cited a CBI note and said Reliance officials were only accused of "structuring" a front company, Swan Telecom Private Ltd, with an intention to cheat the DoT by bypassing its guidelines on grant of licences. "Structuring a company is not an offence and moreover, I am not here in the main thing (conspiracy)," he said.
