2G scam: Entire Karuna family should be included in charge sheet: Jaya

CHENNAI: AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa today said naming of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's MP daughter Kanimozhi in the second charge sheet in the 2G spectrum scam came as no surprise to her and demanded his entire family, starting with the DMK patriarch himself, be included in it.

She alleged that the second charge sheet indicated that a "clear kickback link" has been established between some key beneficiaries of the "spectrum largesse" doled out by former telecom minister A Raja and Karunanidhi's family.

She also asked the government to cancel the license of Kalaignar TV, owned by Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu and Kanimozhi and demanded Kanimozhi's arrest.

"... The interests of justice would be served only if all the members of the Karunanidhi family, starting with the patriarch himself, are named in the charge sheet," Jayalalithaa said.

She said inclusion of both Dayalu and Kanimozhi came as no surprise as there was speculation about it since both were questioned by CBI some weeks ago.

"What is surprising, however, is that while Kanimozhi and Sarath Kumar (Kalaignar TV managing director) who hold 20 per cent shares each have been named in the charge sheet, Dayalu who holds majority stake (60 per cent) has been left out.

"The buck does not stop with merely naming Kanimozhi in the 2G spectrum charge sheet," she said.

The operational license granted to Kalaignar TV, which was clearly started with "graft money" should be withdrawn and the channel taken off air immediately, she said.

Kanimozhi, like all others named in the charge sheet so far, should be arrested and all members of the Karunanidhi family, who she alleged were "direct or indirect beneficiaries in the gargantuan scam", should also be issued charge sheet and arrested, she said.
