2G case: Ties with DMK will remain strong, says Congress

Congress today dismissed suggestions that its ties with key ally DMK will undergo strain in case of any action against Kanimozhi in the 2G case.

NEW DELHI: Congress today dismissed suggestions that its ties with key ally DMK will undergo strain in case of any action against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi in the 2G spectrum case.

"Our (Congress-DMK) relationship is very good, very strong and it will continue," AICC general secretary in-charge of Tamil Nadu Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

He was asked if "possible arrest" of Kanimozhi will affect the ties between the two parties.

Azad's remarks came on a day when DMK MP Kanimozhi appeared before a special court, responding to summons for her alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam and sought bail on grounds of being a woman.

In its supplementary charge sheet filed in a special court on April 25, the CBI had accused Kanimozhi of entering into a criminal conspiracy with former Telecom Minister A Raja for allegedly accepting illegal gratification through Kalaignar TV -- a channel run by the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, in which the money related to the 2G scam was routed.
