NEW DELHI: As many as 291 bureaucrats are on foreign postings and five of them have overstayed their tenure, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said today.

As per available information, 291 officers are on deputation to posts or assignments in foreign countries. Five officers, whose approved tenure ended during the last three financial years, have overstayed without the approval of the competent authority, he said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.

"Extension in deputation tenure may be allowed to officers to align their tenure with the end of the academic session of their children or functional requirement," said Singh, the Union Minister of State for Personnel.
