29 MLAs, 2 MPs to quit opposing Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's name in CBI FIR

HYDERABAD: 29 MLAs, many from Congress, and two party MPs in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday decided to resign, protesting inclusion of former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's name in the FIR filed by CBI in a probe into the assets of his son Jaganmohan.

"29 MLAs and two MPs today decided to resign over the inclusion of Rajasekhara Reddy's name in the FIR," Congress MP Rajmohan Reddy told reporters after a meeting of MLAs loyal to Jaganmohan.

"Three MLAs - K Surekha, J J Sudha and Satyati - have already sent their resignations," rebel Congress MLA P Subhaschandra Bose said.

Bose said the MLAs would submit their resignation to the Assembly Speaker at 11 AM tomorrow.

The two Congress MPs who are going to resign are Rajmohan Reddy from Nellore and Sabbam Hari from Anakapalli.

Rajmohan alleged that Jaganmohan was being targeted in form of the CBI cases against him.

CBI has registered a case against Jaganmohan on the instructions of Andhra Pradesh High Court under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

"It is unfortunate that his (Rajsahekhara Reddy's) name has been mentioned by CBI in the FIR, and in protest we all are resigning," he said, adding, "This is going to be a historic occasion."

"People of Andhra Pradesh want us to do it (quit) and that is why we did it," he said. "People are going to decide the fate other parties and YS Congress party is going to come out with flying colours," he said.

To a question, he said, "We do not want to dethrone the government... it may fall under the under its own weight. Their misdeeds will prove to be their Waterloo."
