LUCKNOW: The 22nd anniversary of Babri mosque demolition passed off peacefully amid tight security arrangements here.

"The event passed off peacefully amid tight security arrangements at important places," a senior police officer said.

Hindu-outfit Bajrang Dal observed it as "day of bravery and victory" and organised various events whereas the Left parties held a joint protest in front of Vidhan Bhawan.

Earlier, 10,000 security personnel were deployed amid calls by Muslim outfits to mark the day by hoisting black flags even as Hindu bodies sought to commemorate it.

Prohibitory orders were clamped in the city and mounted police was among about 10,000 police and anti-riot personnel keeping a vigil.

The local administration had laid a three-tier security cordon around the twin cities of Ayodhya and Faizabad with officials of superintendent rank manning the key areas. Two dozens CCTV cameras were also installed across the Ayodhya city.
