2 killed in Murshidabad Hospital fire

The sick and new born care unit (SNCU) has been badly affected. However, almost all of the babies were rescued by the hospital staff.

2 killed in Murshidabad Hospital fire
KOLKATA: Massive fire broke out in Murshidabad medical college and Hospital that engulfed almost three floors of the hospital. According to the preliminary reports, two nurses were killed and more than 100 patients and hospital staffs were injured. The fire tenders are still working to douse the fire, added sources.

The sick and new born care unit (SNCU) has been badly affected. However, almost all of the babies were rescued by the hospital staff, their parents and the fire fighters. Many of the new born babies fell sick and they are now being treated at the hospital ground.

State minister for fire and emergency, Sovan Chatterjee said that the fire is almost under control, but the hospital is filled with smoke. According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the fire department, a short circuit was the cause of the fire. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sent a team of ministers to the district and a committee has been formed to probe thee incident.
