2 held for plot to attack BARC, ONGC terminals

Brothers-in-law Abdul Latif Rashid alias Guddu and Riyaz Ali Imtiaz alias Rehan were arrested by the ATS after IB intercepted suspicious phone calls, allegedly between the two accused and ‘Chacha’ in Karachi.

MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: ISI's Karachi Project has reared its head again with the arrest of two Mumbai men allegedly working on a plot to attack Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, offshore installations of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and other targets in the city — fuel storage tanks, a shopping mall and a cloth market.

Brothers-in-law Abdul Latif Rashid alias Guddu, 29, a resident of Behrampada in Bandra (East) and Riyaz Ali Imtiaz alias Rehan, a resident of Koyla Bhavan Chawl, Rathan Nagar, Dahisar, were arrested by the ATS after IB intercepted suspicious phone calls, allegedly between the two accused and ‘Chacha’ in Karachi. The Intelligence Bureau alerted ATS, which put the duo under surveillance. The two were picked up after, as sources claimed, evidence firmed up against them.

ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi said the two were suspected of working on plans to target BARC, offshore installations of ONGC in Mumbai and Nhava Sheva, fuel storage tankers of oil companies in Sewri, Thakkar Mall in Borivili and Mangaldas cloth market.
