Two CPI-M local leaders were arrested today in connection with a crude bomb explosion on June 6 in Kannur district in which two activists of the party were killed.

KOZHIKODE: Two CPI-M local leaders were arrested today in connection with a crude bomb explosion on June 6 in Kannur district in which two activists of the party were killed.

Paranur Circle Inspector Anilkumar said, V M Chandran, 36, the party's Chelakkad branch secretary and Bijith Lal, 24, Vilakottoor local committee member, were arrested from their houses at Kolavallur near Paranur this morning.

The duo, who have been charged under explosives act, were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court at Thalassery and remanded to 14 days judicial custody, police said.

Two CPI-M workers were killed and two others seriously injured when a crude bomb exploded at Chettakandy village.

The blast occurred while some persons were manufacturing bombs at Kollavallur, where tension is prevailing between CPI(M) and BJP workers.
