NEW DELHI: A fine partnership between One Day captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and stylish Hyderabadi batsman VVS Laxman kept India in the hunt after the hosts had suffered early losses on the second day of the first cricket Test at Ferozshah Kotla stadium here on Friday. At stumps, India were 228 for the loss of six wickets.

At the end of the day Laxman was batting on 57 while skipper Anil Kumble was unbeaten on 7.

Dhoni departed in the fag end of the innings after scoring an aggressive 57. His scalp was taken by Danish Kaneria.

After having sent Pakistan packing for 231, India were looking down the barrel with five of their top batsmen cooling their heels in the pavilion very early in the innings. After the early departure of Dinesh Karthik, who managed only nine, Dravid and Wasim Jaffer steadied the ship for a while. Just when it looked like they will prevent further damage, Jaffer was trapped LBW by Shaoib Akhtar for a personal score of 32.

Tanvir came to the party again as he bowled Sourav Ganguly. The southpaw scored 8.
