1993 Mumbai blasts: One more jailed for life

Designated Tada court jailed one person for life on Wednesday and sentenced two others for between five and 10 years for their roles in the serial bombings, which killed 257 people.

MUMBAI: Designated Tada court jailed one person for life on Wednesday and sentenced two others for between five and 10 years for their roles in the serial bombings, which killed 257 people.

The court, found 100 people guilty, and has so far sentenced 71 to varying jail terms and fines for planning and abetting the attack or illegal possession of weapons. Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt is one among the 100, found guilty of illegal possession of weapons and faces a maximum punishment of 10 years.

No date has been set for his sentencing. Those sentenced so far include smugglers, petty criminals, a Bollywood producer and also policemen and customs officials who took bribes to let the explosives through. An 83-year-old man is among those jailed for life for planning the blasts. Police say the bomb attacks were ordered by underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim.
