March 12, 1993: 15 bombs were planted in the city allegedly as retaliation to the 1991 Babri Masjid demolition; 12 exploded creating panic in the country’s commercial capital. 257 people died and 713 were injured

April 19, 1993: Sanjay Dutt arrested

Nov 4, 1993: Over 10,000 page-long chargesheet filed against 189 accused, including actor Sanjay Dutt; 20 key accused are still absconding, including Tiger Memon, Dawood Ibrahim and Mohammed Dossa

Nov 19, 1993: Case handed over to CBI

April 10, 1995: 26 accused discharged by TADA court; charges framed against the remaining. Supreme Court discharges two more accused, Samajwadi MP Abu Azmi and Amjed Meher Baux

April 19, 1995: Trial commences

April-June 1995: Charges framed against the accused

June 30, 1995: Two accused, Mohammed Jameel and Usman Jhankanan, turn approvers

Oct 14, 1995: Sanjay Dutt (Accused No 117) granted bail by Supreme Court.

Sept 2003: Trial ends

June 13, 2006: Abu Salem’s trial separated

Sept 12, 2006: TADA court holds four members of the Memon family guilty, acquits three. Of the 123 accused, 100 are sentenced, rest are acquitted.

Nov 28, 2006: TADA court rules Sanjay Dutt is no terrorist, but convicts him under the Arms Act for possession of firearms. He gets a six-year jail term, which will be offset with the period he has already spent in jail.

May 18, 2007: Sentencing begins: 12 people, including four members of the Memon family get death, including Yakub Memon, a CA. The others are Abdul Gani Turk, Parvez Shaikh, Mustaq Taurani, Asghar Mukadam, Shahnawaz Qureshi, Shoaib Ghansar, Firoze Amani Malik, Zakir Hussain, Abdul Akhtar Khan and Farooq Parasale. One of them, Mohammed Iqbal, has since died. 20 sentenced to life of whom two have died. 68 got varying jail terms.

Sept 7, 2011: SC begins hearing final appeal

Aug 29, 2012: SC reserves judgement

March 21, 2013: SC upholds death sentence of Yakub Memon, commutes death sentence of 10 other accused to life imprisonment
