161 candidates in fray for the NCHAC polls

A total of 161 candidates have filed their nomination for the upcoming polls to the NCHAC in Dima Hasao district of Assam.

HAFLONG: A total of 161 candidates have filed their nomination for the upcoming polls to the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in Dima Hasao district of Assam.

Today was the last day for filing of nominations to the 28 constituencies of NCHAC which are slated to go for polls on May 20.

As per official sources, ten candidates from BJP, 28 from Congress, 16 from HSDP, 14 from Dima Hasao Dal (DHD), 15 from Indigenous Peoples Party (IPP) and 78 independents filed their nomination papers.

A number of former leaders from the Dima Halam Daogah, which entered into a settlement with the union government last year, are in the fray.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on April 29, while the date of withdrawal of candidature is on May 2.

Polls will be held on May 20 and and counting of votes would be taken up on May 24.
