16-year-old boy drowns in Ganga

The divers who were present at the spot jumped into the river to rescue him after they saw him drowning but Azad could not be rescued, police said.

KANPUR: A 16-year-old boy drowned in the Ganga river when he had gone to take a bath with his friends, police said today.

Azad, a resident of Bacon Ganj, drowned while taking bath in the river yesterday evening, they said.

The divers who were present at the spot jumped into the river to rescue him after they saw him drowning but Azad could not be rescued, police said.

The body was later fished out and sent for post-mortem, police said, adding, the matter is being investigated.
