15th finance commission has given Rs 14000 crore: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 15th finance commission has given Rs 14000 crore to Assam as revenue deficit grant.

Sarma while talking to media persons on Wednesday said, “For embankment construction in Majuli Rs 1,000 crore is given by the commission. For infrastructure development of Kamakhya temple Rs 300 Crore is provided.”

Majuli is a river island and Kamakhya temple is Shaktipeeth in Guwahati.


He added that details of 15th finance commission grant will be stated while vote on account will be presented in state assembly this month. As Assam is going to assembly polls vote on account will be presented.

On February 5, Assam government will regularize/appoint 29,701 teachers. Sarma who is also education minister said state exchequer will have to incur Rs 500 Crore annually following these appointments. “In last five years we have appointed over 36,000 teachers.”

Under National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 another 43,000 teachers will be appointed to teach students in mother tongue till class 5.
