BENGALURU: About 1,500 people from Karnataka had attended the Tablighi Jamaat meet in Delhi and the state government has contacted and screened 800 of them for Covid-19, additional chief secretary (health) Jawaid Akhtar said on Wednesday. Of these, swab samples of 143 people who were symptomatic of Covid-19 have been sent for testing. The results would likely arrive in a day or two.

The state has yet to contact the remaining about 700 people who had attended the congregation at Nizamuddin in Delhi. The government has requested such people to voluntarily inform district administrations.

Akhtar said people who had returned from Nizamuddin to Karnataka at least two weeks ago would continue to be in home isolation. Those who have not completed the two-week period are put in government-run quarantine facilities. The Karnataka government has yet to get details about foreign nationals who had participated in the event.

On Wednesday, Karnataka reported nine new cases of Covid-19, taking the state’s tally to 110. All the new cases either had a travel history to Covid-19-affected countries or were the primary contacts of the affected. They included two individuals from a pharmaceutical company in Nanjangud near Mysuru. So far, 12 Covid-19 cases have been reported from the pharmaceutical company.

Fever clinics
The Karnataka government on Wednesday issued a list of about 100 fever clinics, along with the guidelines to be followed by them. Fever clinics are opened in both government and private hospitals and are the first point of contact for suspected Covid-19 patients.
