A suicide attack on US convoy in southern Afghanistan kills 15 people, including 11 civilians.

KANDAHAR: A suicide attack on US convoy in southern Afghanistan on Saturday killed 15 people, including 11 civilians, and wounded another 26, a provincial police chief said.

Police chief Sayed Aqa Saqib said four Afghan security guards were also among the dead, while 19 civilians and seven guards were wounded.

"Fifteen people, four Afghan security guards and 11 civilians were killed and another 26 including 19 civilians and seven guards were wounded in the suicide blast today," he said.

The attack happened in a crowded area west of Kandahar city, the capital of Kandahar province, on the main highway to restive Helmand, he said.

The logistics convoy was heading to the troubled Zehri district in Helmand province and was guarded by a US private security firm (USPI).

The blast destroyed two USPI vehicles and a civilian minibus on the road, police said at the scene.
