14 SDF MLAs to head state bodies
Sikkim chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling has appointed 14 of the 31 Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) MLAs as chairpersons of various government undertakings and advisory boards.
These bodies include Denzong Agriculture Cooperative Societies Ltd, Sikkim Distilleries and Sikkim Nationalised Transport(SNT), among others, a notification said.
Chandra Maya Subba, one of the four women MLAs of the SDF, has got chairmanship of State Trading Corporation of Sikkim (STC). Chamling has also rewarded three former ministers, all denied SDF tickets to contest Assembly polls, with advisory roles.
Meanwhile, at a crowded press conference here after the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Chamling said his priority now was development of the state & its people.
The cabinet has taken a decision to institute community-specific reservation for Bhutia & Lepcha tribes of the state at panchayat level. The SDF has already given unconditional support to UPA in Delhi.
