12 PSUs to provide assistance to Bihar flood-hit
12 public sector undertakings (PSUs) under the Union Steel Ministry came forward with relief assistance to help the 2.5 million affected people.

NEW DELHI: As Bihar grapples with massive devastation caused by unprecedented floods, 12 public sector undertakings (PSUs) under the Union Steel Ministry on Monday came forward with relief assistance to help the 2.5 million affected people.
The PSUs include SAIL, RINL, NMDC, MOIL, FSNL, MECON and BRL. The assistance by these organisations will be worth Rs 30 crore.
"These PSUs will participate in the rescue and relief operation and reach out to many areas where no assistance has reached so far," Union Minister for Steel and Chemical Fertiliser Ram Vilas Paswan told reporters here.
The PSUs will set up 150 camps from Thursday in six districts in Bihar and provide food to the affected people, he said. They will distribute flattened rice, clothes, polythene sheets and other essential commodities, chief of the Lok Janshakti Party said.
Health camps will be set up in the affected areas where doctors from these PSUs will distribute medicines and attend to the people. Teams comprising ten to 12 doctors will visit the flood-hit areas and take care of the health problems.
As per the request of the state government, these PSUs will provide ten lakh GI sheets and 40 lakh pipes to help the people set up temporary sheds.
To ensure transparency, two senior officials of the ministry will monitor the relief operations.
Asked whether Nitish Kumar government had failed in the relief and rescue work, Paswan said this is not the time for blame game.
"We will make postmortem exercise later and find out how things went wrong," he said.
The PSUs include SAIL, RINL, NMDC, MOIL, FSNL, MECON and BRL. The assistance by these organisations will be worth Rs 30 crore.
